Croatian Islands Guide

Posted by: ConnectoTravel.com

Croatia is a country known worldwide for its great natural beauty and one of its most famous parts are the islands and the Adriatic Sea. Croatia shares Adriatic Sea with Italy, Slovenia, Montenegro and for a very small part Bosnia and Herzegovina, but only Croatia can proud itself with more than thousand islands. You can only imagine how amazing it looks if you take in consideration that the total surface of the Croatian part of the Adriatic Sea is 33 200 km2. Croatia islands can be classified in many ways, by size, by population, by beauty and by the type of holiday you will experience if you visit one of them.

Certainly the largest Croatian islands are Cres, Krk and Brac. Cres and Krk are located in the north part of the Adriatic Sea, while the island of Brac is located in the south part, in the region of Dalmatia. Besides these three islands, other islands worth mentioning are definitely the islands of Hvar, Korčula, Pag, Lastovo, Rab, Ugljan and of course, the national park of the Kornati islands. Probably the information you're looking for is which island is most popular among the tourists. The answer to that question would without a doubt be- the island Hvar.

Hvar is an island in the region od Dalmatia and it is also known as the sunniest Croatian island. The island is also known for its great wine and lavender fields, beautiful architecture and nightlife. When it comes to accommodation on the island of Hvar, you can choose among the hotels of the highest category and top quality apartments in bed & breakfast accommodations on the entire island. If you wish to spend your holidays in a quiet bay, the island of Hvar is full of secluded coves and private villas that will give you as much privacy as you need. Besides the town of Hvar, visit also Stari Grad and its UNESCO protected plain, villages Jelsa and Vrboska.

The island of Lastovo, on the other hand, is a perfect choice for all of you looking for getting back in touch with nature. Lastovo is maybe a bit further from the mainland, but don't let a 5 hour ferry ride be the reason to not visit this incredibly beautiful typical Mediterranean island. Smell the pine trees, enjoy in the sounds of crickets, drive a vespa through the island, and enjoy in paved stone streets of Lastovo village. The ferry on its way to Lastovo usually stops at the island of Korcula which is also something to be seen, especially the town of Korcula which can be easily reached by a 20 minute ferry ride from Orebic on peninsula of Peljesac.

And our last island recommendation where you perhaps cannot find an accommodation, but can enjoy while sailing, are definitely the islands of Kornati. Kornati islands are a national park located in the north part of Dalmatia, in the counties of Sibenik and Zadar. Their unique beauty lies in their indentation and absence of vegetation. The underwater caves, reefs and islets make the islands of Kornati a truly amazing experience worth your visit.

Since all the islands are close to the mainland of Croatia, you can visit them by organizing daily trips and excursions so even if you book your hotel or apartment somewhere in Split, you can visit all the islands in the region and enjoy in their beauty and attractions that embellish even more over time.
