Things to do in Dubrovnik

Posted by: ConnectoTravel.com

If you're looking for absolutely the most popular summer destination in Croatia, then you probably already know that it is the city of Dubrovnik. This amazingly beautiful medieval pearl is located in the South Croatia and is its southernmost city. Dubrovnik is so famous that its stone walls are the most famous postcard of Croatia. Its beauty lies not only in its architecture and nature, but also in its cultural heritage and history. Dubrovnik is a city not large by size but certainly a city of huge importance to Croatian people. Being a free republic most of its past, Dubrovnik was always a city of its own, a city in front of its time. The merchants and sailors of Dubrovnik made this small European town important on the world map even before Marco Polo. If you decide to visit Dubrovnik then nothing, and really absolutely nothing can beat seeing Dubrovnik for the first time from a ship. Of course that flying over Dubrovnik has its perks, but seeing the city for the first time and its walls from the sea is a unique experience.

If you have however arrived to Dubrovnik by a car or a plane, nothing stops you from taking a boat ride around the city. Besides the walls the things that make Dubrovnik so beautiful are the forts, towers and fortresses of Revelin, Minčeta, Lovrijenac... Church of St. Blaise, Rector's Palace, Sponza Palace, Franciscan monastery and the main street of Stradun, all this makes Dubrovnik an amazing experience and great travel choice. You should absolutely climb the walls which go around the city for 2 kilometers, and if you get tired, there are gates to leave the walls on several places. Seeing Dubrovnik and its red roofs from the walls will be one of the most memorable pictures from your trip.

Next to the city is a small island of Lokrum which can be visited each day on numerous occasions, so don't miss the chance to visit its botanical garden and monastery. Speaking of botanical gardens, not far from Dubrovnik is a place called Trsteno with one of the most beautiful and largest botanical gardens in Croatia, containing vegetation from all over the world. If you're looking for a trip „à la campagne“, then visit the village Konavle. Konavle and its villas in the style off villa rustica, vineyards, small taverns and olive gardens will take your breath away.

Sail around the islands of Elafiti- Kolocep, Sipan and Lopud and enjoy in true Mediterranean as it once was. If you're wondering where to stay in Dubrovnik, then the list of hotels ad apartments just goes on and on. You can choose from so many types of accommodations, hotels, b&b's, private lodgings, camps and villas, that finding a perfect summer home won't be a problem. Visit Dubrovnik and enjoy in everything it has to offer and we guarantee you that it will be an experience of a lifetime.
